As much as it hurts me as a Computer Science graduate to say this, the answer is a big fat NO! But the truth has to be told as it is. This is the hard truth I came to learn after completing my Degree course without any useful knowledge of any programming languages. I know you may be wondering how this is possible, but just like many university students out there, I chose to have fun in school, having so much freedom, which I had never had before, and spending less time on expanding my skills.
After finishing school, that’s when the reality of life hit
me. That's when I started learning how to code all by myself from scratch, and only by
doing so could I put myself out there to start looking and applying
for jobs. I realized in this industry that all clients care about is your skills, what you can offer them, and the quality of
services. Nobody cares whether you went to programming school or you are a
self-taught developer as long as you prove yourself to be capable of delivering
and have the capabilities to solve any problem presented to you.
There are thousands of online development boot camps and videos available on the internet to choose from. So many online platforms offer lessons and tips for becoming a software developer, and what’s even more impressive is that most are completely free. A simple YouTube search is all it takes, and you get to see tons of tutorials available on any topic you want to start learning, from web development, data science, machine learning, and ethical hacking lessons are all available there.
However, as a self-taught developer, building as many projects as possible is vital to ensure you get comfortable with the language you are learning. Afterward, create a portfolio where you can include all the
projects you have created. This way, you get to show potential clients what you
are capable of.
Software development is a skill anyone can learn by themselves, which is very easy considering all the available resources and learning materials. Nobody should feel that since they haven’t done
an IT-related course, they are not fit to become developers or have a
disadvantage over the learned lads. In this industry, your skills are what
matters the most. If you don’t know where to start a software development
career, you can visit this article I shared about becoming a software developer. Tips for Becoming a successful Software Developer
