Do you want to become a programmer but don’t know what programming language to learn.  In this article, I’ll be sharing the programming languages currently in high demand in 2023. But even before I start listing the programming languages, it’s very important to let you know that each language has its specific role, i.e., what the language is used to develop.  You may be interested either in web development, software development, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc. Each category mentioned has its own programming language that you must learn.

So if you already have something you want to specialize in your mind, let this article guide what language you need to learn and what you need to start. Also, if you don't know what you want to do, still read through and see which programming language interests you.

1.       JavaScript.

JavaScript is a language mostly used in web development, and that’s why it’s the number one programming language on demand right now. More than 95% of existing websites are developed using JavaScript. Since no other language has even come close to replacing JavaScript for web development, the demand for JavaScript developers ain’t going down any time soon.

A website has a front end and a back end. The front end is what the client sees, and the back end is where all the website's data and information are stored in a database. Previously, JavaScript was used as a frontend language, but JavaScript frameworks and libraries have been implemented over the years to cover even the backend. That means that JavaScript alone is enough to become a full-stack developer. Node Js and React Js are the most widely used JavaScript frameworks.

So definitely, JavaScript is one of the best programming languages to learn in 2023. You can refer to this article to learn in detail what it takes to be a web developer. Tips to becoming a successful software developer

2.       Java

Java has been a very widely used language for the past many years. Despite the name, Java is not in any way related to JavaScript. Java is mostly used to create web-based applications. The main reason why Java has been widely used for all those years is because of its ability to be used to develop applications from almost each and every existing platform. That is android, windows, and even iOS (The operating system used by Apple Products.)

Unlike JavaScript, which is quite easy to learn, most beginner developers claim that Java is a little bit complex to learn. But that should not stop you from learning the language if that’s where your passion lies. An extensive online community has dedicated itself to helping Java developers and assisting them with resources and materials to help them become better developers.

3.       Python

Python is another popular programming language that is so in demand today. The syntax used in Python programming is very friendly and easy for beginners to handle and understand. Python can be implemented and used in many platforms like the web, app, or game development. This language is used to create Graphical User Interface (GUI-based) systems, which is why it is used on many platforms. To those unfamiliar with GUI-based systems, they are basically systems that make use of graphical components that make the systems very user-friendly and easy to use. Python is one of the best paths to take if you want to start a career as a programmer.

4.       PHP

PHP is a server-side programming language, meaning it’s mostly used to develop the backend web application. This is the most used server-side programming language in the world right now. However, in order to become a better PHP developer, it’s very advisable to have some knowledge of frontend development too. This is because most users interact with the client side of the website, and it’s up to the PHP developer to ensure that correct data is fetched from the database as per the clients' instructions.

Some of the basic frontend concepts that a PHP developer must have are in languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which are the building blocks of frontend/client-side web development.

5.       Typescript

Using JavaScript to build large projects can sometimes make the code too complicated to even identify errors. And is for this reason that Typescript was developed; its major role was to make JavaScript development so much easier. It’s important to first learn JavaScript before learning Typescript. This will make learning way easier since the languages share almost similar syntax. It’s also important to point out that Typescript is not only a front-end programming language, as so many people tend to make this assumption. It can be used for both Frontend and backend web development.

Conclusion

There are many programming languages out there that I did not mention in this article, but the ones I mentioned here are the most popular and in demand right now. You can choose what programming language you want to learn according to your interests. If you want to venture in maybe game development, web development, etc., you now know what programming languages you need to learn for each.
